The two documented differences
In two situations IRCC's tool does not follow IRCC's published criteria. We follow the criteria, and our tests require the difference to be exactly this amount:
TCF Canada at NCLC 4 as the first official language
- Published criteria: The published criteria give 6 points per ability at CLB/NCLC 4 or 5 for a first official language.
- IRCC's tool: IRCC's tool gives 0 points for an ability at NCLC 4 when the test is TCF Canada (it gives 6 for TEF Canada and the English tests).
- Difference: 6 points per ability at NCLC 4.
French-first candidates whose English test is PTE Core
- Published criteria: The published criteria give 50 additional points for NCLC 7+ in all four French abilities with CLB 5+ in all four English abilities, otherwise 25.
- IRCC's tool: IRCC's tool gives 25 instead of 50 when French is the first official language and the English test is PTE Core, even at CLB 5+ in all four abilities.
- Difference: 25 points, when French is NCLC 7+ and PTE Core is CLB 5+ in all four abilities.
If IRCC changes its tool, our daily check re-runs every comparison against the new version.
